CRAZY ???

HERE IS MY STORY !!!
I WAS AT WORK TODAY MINDING
MY OWN BUSINESS WHEN MY
COWORKER AND FRIEND BLAIR TOLD ME
THAT SHE SAW A TABLE DISGARDED BY
THE SIDE OF THE ROAD LAST WEEK AND
SHE THOUGHT OF ME. SHE SAID IT HAD
NICE LEGS BUT SHE THOUGHT THE
TOP WAS TO FAR GONE.
SHE TRIED TO STOP AND GET IT FOR ME,
BRINGING HER INTO MY CRAZINESS.
BUT THE TABLE WAS TO LARGE. SO
AFTER WORK IN THE RAIN,
 MIND YOU
IT WAS RAINING THE LAST
FEW DAYS AND THE TABLE WAS OUTSIDE BY
THE ROAD THE WHOLE TIME,
I RESCUED IT. IT HAD MUD ON IT
AND IT WAS SOAKED...
THE LAMINATE ON THE TOP WAS PEELING
AND TURNING GREEN
AND I NOT SURE IF I CAN SAVE IT
BUT IM SURE GOING TO TRY.
AND IT WASN'T DARK YET SO I WONDER
WHAT ALL THE CARS PASSING BY THOUGHT...
HERE ARE PICTURES OF IT

THIS IS THE TOP

AND THIS IS THE BOTTOM

CHUNKS OF WOOD ARE MISSING FROM IT.

I BEGAN TO SCRAPE THE LAMINATE OFF THE TOP
ARMED WITH A PUTTY KNIFE AND A HEAT GUN
SCRAPING OFF 2 LAYERS OF LAMINATE
QUESTIONING MYSELF THE WHOLE TIME

I SPENT ABOUT AN HOUR MAYBE A LITTLE MORE AND GOT THE ENTIRE TOP SCRAPED OFF. UNDERNEATH THE LAMINATE
IS A ROUGH WOOD ,
BUT IM THINKING IT MIGHT GIVE IT THAT
RECLAIMED WOOD, FARM TABLE LOOK.
AND OF COURSE I'LL SAND IT..
THIS IS WHAT CAME OFF THE TOP
PLUS MORE THAT I ALREADY HAD
SWEPT UP...
SO AM I CRAZY OR DO YOU THINK IT
WILL BE WORTH IT?
I KNOW ITS GOING TO BE A MEGA PROJECT...

  1. Woah Baaaby! Yeah that is going to be a crap load of work, but You will make it look beautiful...If the large top doesn't work, maybe add a smaller piece of wood to the top making it a sofa table or entry way one...Good Luck!

  3. Lauren, I love the table base with all the carved detailing! I think the hard part is over - all that laminate scraping. I know you will make it look beautiful and I can't wait to see it when it is finished :)

  7. Your gonna think I'm crazy but I have the same EXACT table!!!!! Same legs! OMG! How weird is this! I disected the table, saved the top and legs and repurposed them in different projects.
And I took all the laminate off and polycrylic-ed the top. It's beautiful. Wow, thanks for sharing and to your co-worker. 8>)

I think it will be fabulous, just like all the others that you have brought back from the brink of death... maybe we should call you Dr. Wood.

  9. You make me laugh! I just did something like that the other day - it wasn't free (but cheap), Since I paid for it(which makes it worse) I have just been looking at it thinking WHAT am I going to do with this HUGE thing! Keep your eye out on my blog for it and I'll be keeping an eye out on your blog for what you do with that table! We're either crazies or geniuses.
