CHOO CHOO TABLE!

WHILE IN UPSTATE NY MY
MOM ASKED ME IF I WOULD MAKE
HER A TRAIN
TABLE FOR MY NEPHEWS AND THE
KIDS THAT SHE BABYSITS FOR.
I USED COLORS INSPIRED
BY THE LITTLE THOMAS TRAINS.

SO I WENT TO WORK ON THIS
PROJECT FOR HER. I PICKED
UP A COFFEE TABLE AT THE
THRIFT STORE IN N.J.

THIS IS THE ONE SHE SAW
AT TOYS ARE US THAT SHE
LIKED...
SO HERE IS THE COFFEE TABLE I FOUND TO WORK WITH IN
THE BEGINNING...

THE STORAGE UNDERNEATH THE
TABLE WAS GREAT WITH 4 PULL OUT
WICKER BASKETS AND 4 PULL OUT
DRAWERS. BOTH SIDES OF THE
COFFEE TABLE WERE USEABLE AND I
KNEW IT WOULD BE GREAT FOR THIS
PROJECT..

PICTURES ARE A LITTLE DARK I WAS IN THE BASEMENT
WHEN I STARTED THE PROJECT.

WE PICKED UP A THIN RUG FOR
THE TOP THAT HAD TRAIN TRACKS
AS THE GRAPHIC AND CUT IT TO
THE SIZE OF THE TOP.

HERE IS THE PROJECT HALF WAY THRU...
I THEN FRAMED OUT
THE TOP WITH SOME MOLDING
FOR A MORE FINISHED LOOK,
AND THE REST WAS PAINTED, AND
MY NEPHEWS HELPED ME OUT!

HERE SHE IS ALL FINISHED...

SHE ALREADY HAD THE TRACK AND THE TRAINS AND ACCESSORIES. WE PUT
VELCRO ON THE BOTTOMS OF ALL
THE TREES AND PEOPLE AND SIGNS, AND WITH THE RUG TOP IT WORKED OUT
PERFECT AS THE PIECES WOULD STAY
WHERE YOU PUT THEM.

I EVEN MADE A LITTLE TREE
FOREST!

I USED A NAIL GUN TO PUT ALL
THE TRACK IN PLACE AND PAINTED
THE MOLDING TO MATCH THE
TABLE AND FINISH OFF THE LOOK.

LOTS OF ROOM FOR ALL
THE TRAINS AND SPARE PIECES!

HOPE YOU LIKE THE WAY IT
TURNED OUT, MY NEPHEW SAID
"IT'S THE BEST TRAIN TABLE EVER"
AND IT WAS MADE FOR UNDER
$35.00 VS THE ONE IN TOYS
ARE US WHICH WAS $199 AND
I LIKE MINE BETTER!

  3. Lauren, you did great job! About 8 years ago, we did purchase the one for $200. We're going to keep it forever. I don't regret it, b/c I think my boys played with it every day for probably three years straight, but I thinking back, we probably could've made our own back then and just didn't think to it. Wait till you have your own kids!!! You're such a whiz now, you'll be builidng train tables and play kitchens all over the place! Adding the velcro was a really good idea to help secure the accessories. OUr train table... such great memories!!

  18. FANTASTIC! my son loves trains I think this would be a good project! he leaves his train pieces out in the floor and 2 have already had to be trashed because adult feet stepped on them. this would get them up and out of the way! and make for easy clean up! I love this !
